The first season of The Father was a big hit for Netflix and it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray this week. I recently reviewed the first season and, as I suspected, the show is a bit of a mixed bag. I’ll admit that I’m a bit disappointed with it, as it seems like a promising series that didn’t really reach its full potential. The show stars Tim Blake Nelson (The Green Mile, Pacific Rim) as a man who is trying to reconnect with his estranged son (played by Michael Landon Jr., who is the grandson of the famed actor) and it features a slew of other familiar actors and actresses (including Dennis Hopper and Eyde Belasco, and the occasional cameo by the late John C
“The Father” is a new Netflix Original film starring out actor Ed Harris and includes a cast of veteran actors such as Diane Keaton, Craig T. Nelson, and Joan Allen. The film is a dramatization of a trial that took place in the late 1960’s, focusing on a young boy named Thomas, who was raised by his mother after his father was sent to prison due to a drug bust. The film is largely a throwback to the dramas of the 70’s, with strong performances all around, and also holds a lot of nostalgic value for many fans of the film “Taxi Driver” (1976). The film was well received by critics and fans alike, and will no doubt be a success for Netflix.

Every now and then, we stumble across a film that moves our spirit in ways we can’t explain. One such treasure is The Father. It’s very poignant in the way it weaves emotional connection with old age and the ailments that come with it. It has an emotional appeal to the audience since they may picture themselves as a part of the narrative.
In 2021, the film was released under the direction of renowned French filmmaker Florian Zeller, who transformed the film into an outstanding masterpiece.
Plot
The story centers on Anthony, an 80-year-old man who refuses to leave the apartment where he has lived for years. Anne, his daughter, chooses to leave because she wants to start a new life in Paris with Paul. She’s worried about his father, who has recently shown symptoms of dementia. On some days, he’s great; on others, he just doesn’t fit in and questions everything that happens to him. He’s starting to lose sight of what’s genuine.
The audience will be moved by the sad story of his memory succumbing to the illness. His difficulties and pains worsen with time, but he remains certain that he can care for himself and does not need the assistance of a nurse.
Anthony soon begins to have doubts about his own daughter and begins to be suspicious of everything. He no longer recognizes his apartment. He recounts the location of his second daughter and how he spotted a guy he had never seen before in his home, claiming to reside there. He is gradually losing his identity. Anne can’t help but be concerned about him.
Should you watch it online or skip it?
The Guardian is the source of this information.
The film is ideal for the “STREAM IT” category. The picture has achieved a rare status in the film business, with a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 98 percent and an IMDb rating of 8.3. Moving aside from the specifics of its reception, the Father is a tough film to watch based on personal experience. It would send you into a tizzy with massive emotional upheavals when all you did was sit in front of the TV.
It has that sort of effect potential. It is sad, and maybe that is what makes it so compelling to see. The film has acquitted itself in every aspect of testifying, including directing, production, and the emotional appeal that a great film is supposed to have. Despite all of Anthony’s hallucinations and perplexing mental states, the film manages to precisely fit all of the parts into the screen.
Regardless of how beautiful the film is, it is not an easy watch. Every twitch in Anthony’s conduct causes the viewers to get more immersed in the picture.
Conclusion

The Father is a film that should be seen by everyone. Olivia Colman, the Oscar winner who plays Anne, captures every feeling flawlessly, making it all seem more genuine than ever. On the other hand, Anthony Hopkins, who plays Anthony, leaves no stone unturned in portraying himself as a dementia sufferer and demonstrates why he is the best choice for the part.
The Father is a great film that masterfully blends sorrow, dread, and helplessness with a sympathetic emotional appeal that captivates audiences as they get overwhelmed while diving further into the experience.
